Peer Support Program

Peer Support Program

Our school will be implementing the Peer Support Program in Secondary starting on Thursday 14th Feb. Staff conduct this Program with the assistance of Peer Support Australia. The Program involves 2 days of leadership training for Peer Leaders who then work with small groups of students. Each group works through a set of structured sessions for a term. The focus of the sessions for this year is ‘Resilience’.

The purpose of the Peer Support Program is to develop understandings, attitudes and skills necessary to help students:

  • enhance their self esteem
  • be more resilient
  • cope with their changing environment
  • foster positive relationships with others
  • contribute to the wellbeing of the school community.

Year 7 students will be working for one period a week of this term with Year 10 students who have been trained to conduct the program and offer support. This program has proved successful in broadening students’ support networks and establishing close relationships with a variety of peers.

The Peer Support Program will also be implemented in Primary over terms 2 and 3 this year.
